Hand Tremors and Smartphone Usability

175 MILLION people worldwide are affected by hand tremors.

The drawing at left is an example of undesired hand movements when a user with tremors is asked to draw a spiral. These tremors affect a user’s ability to accurately use touch screen functions, making many features of the interface slow and frustrating.

DIAL is an assistive device that helps users easily and accurately navigate their smartphone. Dial replaces the most difficult gestures for those experiencing hand tremors with intuitive tactile controls.

Switch control functionality is built into modern smartphones — Dial uses this function in a new, more easily controlled manner.
